P.A.L. Season 2: The First Power Ranking

With the 1st week of P.A.L. Season 2 now underway, I want to try something new. So here it is, the first ever P.A.L. Power Rankings. If this is something that gains traction, expect to see them coming on a weekly basis, if not, then it was still fun to try once!

The following rankings only represent how I (BurrPlaysGames) view the strength of the different Amiibo in P.A.L. Season 2. While there are certain things I base my rankings on (record, history, strength of character to name a few), at the end of the day, these are entirely subjective.

You’ll see brief write-ups for my opinions on the top 10 Amiibo, but I’m just one person, so that is all I have for now (every Amiibo is ranked, only the top 10 have write-ups). If you want to know more, you can find me on The Splice Stream Discord, or you can contact me on Twitter. Finally, remember to catch P.A.L. live Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 PM Eastern Time!

1:

Last season’s champion has yet to take his flipper off the gas pedal and is rolling through Season 2. After a 2-0, 4-0 against Fulminix’s Ike (who was undefeated against Dedede’s until the fight), Mr.Mallet only lost 1 stock against Mythril Zenith, who took 7th place last season. If he can overcome Jester (his only loss in any P.A.L. event) next week, this Amiibo will have a strong path to a repeat championship.

2:

Always the runner-up, Dr.Amigo’s path to revenge has already taken him through Nozomu (7th in the Season 2 Play-In), and Smitty (7th overall in Season 1). Fernando is currently poised to make the playoffs, and if we’ve learned anything, it can be hard to stop him once he is there.

3:

The first Bowser to make it into P.A.L. is wreaking just as much havoc as was expected. After losing one stock Latios’ Pichu in their first game, Tough Claw has taken 7 straight stocks in-route to a so-far undefeated run. While all eyes are on this would-be king slayer, his toughest challenge may just come from his own division…

4:

If you haven’t met Super NES, his performance this season is a good introduction. His wins aren’t the flashiest, but only 2 trainers have taken P.A.L. sets off Super NES, Burr and Fernando. After dispatching Burr this week, CyFy is now the only thing standing between Cloud and the top seed of the N64 division.

5:

If Season 1 taught us anything, it’s that if you win the Play-In, you may just be the favorite to win it all. So far, FORGLORY!! has not disappointed. His ranking being this low is only due to my distrust of Little Macs as a whole. If he wins next week against Blank’s King K. Rool as well as Clockwerk66’s Kirby, it will go a long way in assuaging my fears.

6:

I don’t think anyone expected the DietDrPepr’s success last season, least of all Splice. From 2nd Place in the tight Wii division, to 4th place overall, P.A.L.’s lone Wii Fit Trainer has made waves. After a big win against FarmingSim’s Ridley, DietDrPepr’s momentum will carry them right into…

7:

The other cause of FarmingSim’s surprising start, BrightEyes has a lot to prove, but isn’t faltering yet. This Kirby’s surprising Up-Special spamming strategy has proven effective against high-level competition, and it will be interesting to see if it continues to play out. Expect this amiibo to shoot up or down these rankings next week, as they fight both the SpliceClimbers and RC.

8:

Last season, Cucco-Master was the only trainer to miss the Playoffs with a 5-2 record. After a couple of very solid wins, it looks like Cucco-Master is on the same pace this season, and with better luck, we will see Melanie in the Playoffs this season.

9:

The only Amiibo with a loss in the top 10, Plant makes it this high largely on prestige. When your only loss is a tight affair with last season’s 2nd Place finisher, I think there is room for leniency. Smitty is legendary for his Piranha Plant Amiibo, and there is no reason yet to think Plant won’t continue to be a force moving forward. That being said, don’t expect Plant to remain this high if they take another divisional loss in the next couple of weeks.

10:

I’m not sure I would call MiDe’s first 2 wins impressive, but they currently sit atop Wii Division without dropping a game. Next week will be MiDe’s true test, as their match against Smitty will help show just how far this Cpt.Falcon can fly.
